Clemson 2022 quarterback commit rising up national rankings
Cade Klubnik’s stock is on the rise.
The Tigers’ 2022 quarterback commit jumped up 12 spots on the Rivals 250 player rankings on Tuesday. The Westlake (Austin, Texas) prospect has a 4-star ranking and rated 28th overall in his class. He’s also rated as the No. 4 pro-style quarterback in his class.
Klubnik’s still working for the 5-star rating, but he’s getting there. Clemson only has four commitments in the 2022 class, ranking 25th in team rankings but Rivals has the class tied for second in average player rating (4). Other verbal commits on the list for the Tigers include offensive tackles Collin Sadler (110) and Blake Miller (115).
Tigers track and field set to begin NCAA track and field championships
The Clemson track and field programs are set to compete at the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., from Thursday through Saturday.
The championships feature the top-24 individuals and relay teams in each event across the sport. The four-day event will conclude the 2020-21 season, crowning national champions in each sport.
Clemson’s men will begin competition Wednesday at 5:02 p.m. Pacific Time (PT) as the men’s 4×100-meter relay takes to the track during the third heat of the event’s semifinal round. The women are slated to kick off their events Thursday in the 4×100m relay at 3:32 p.m. PT.
Latest on Justyn Ross, Clemson backup quarterback situation
Clemson’s current backup quarterback situation is less than ideal.
Tigers backup Taisun Phommachanh went down in the Orange vs. White spring game with a torn achilles. And with Clemson signees Bubba Chandler and Will Taylor expected to be drafted in next month’s MLB Draft, the depth chart is slim at the moment. After D.J. Uiagalelei, walk-on Hunter Helms is the only healthy quarterback on campus.
The backup quarterback was working at Dabo Swinney Camp last week, and while he was wearing a boot, he was moving better than I expected.Phommachanh was instructing campers and even showing them how to go through some drills. No, he’s not close to being full-speed at this point, but the staff feels good about where he is in the rehab process.
